OSAS Client/Server

What is OSAS C/S?

OSAS C/S version 6.0 is the new client/server solution for OSAS users. It uses the BASIS PRO/5 Data Server to provide access to your data from a variety of clients.

The PRO/5 Data Server is an ODBC compliant data server that works with PRO/5 for UNIX or Visual PRO/5 for Windows as a client. It provides remote data access on WAN's and LAN's while also offering data security.

You can mix and match clients and servers to provide a complete solution for all of your customers’ needs. Here are three typical OSAS C/S configurations:

UNIX Server

You can use the UNIX Data Server to store your OSAS files. You can then use a mixture of UNIX terminals, DOS- or Windows- based terminal emulators, and Windows-based graphical clients to access the same data.

Windows NT Server

You can use the Windows NT Data Server to store your OSAS files. You can then use Visual PRO/5 windows clients to access the data. Using OSAS C/S rather than standard multiuser OPEN Windows decreases network traffic and improves system performance.

Novell NetWare Server

You can use the Novell Data Server to store your OSAS files. You can then use Visual PRO/5 Novell Windows clients to access the data. Using OSAS C/S rather than standard multiuser OPEN Windows for Novell decreases network traffic and improves system performance.
